Affordable Brushes March 12, 2008

Haven’t blogged in a couple days as my mind hasn’t been very focused on makeup lately. However, a couple nights ago I saw a great video by Koren of EnKoreMakeup over at YouTube about affordable makeup brushes.

These brushes look super amazing. I went to the site and they have even more that weren’t featured in the video. I haven’t tried any of these yet, but I’m excited to buy some in the future. Not sure how soon that will be, though, my personal computer broke (I’ve been using the family laptop) and pretty much all my money will go to a new computer for the next month or two. But that’s life, lol.

Anyway, I’ve also heard that H&M has brushes that are really inexpensive, but very soft and of high quality. I’ve been wanting to go and look into this but I haven’t had the chance to do this either. =( Hopefully soon.

“She did WHAT??” March 4, 2008

Ok, Sunday night I was hanging out with my sister and our friend. I put some makeup on and left my stuff on the bottom of a little shelf I have where I keep all my makeup and didn’t think about it again. A couple hours later we were in the living room watching TV and I hear my cat, DeeDee, meowing by the stairs, but I don’t think anything of it. Our friend leaves at 11PM and I’m about to head upstairs when I notice … my powder brush laying at the foot of the stairs. It’s an art brush made from goat hair.

For a second I think, “Did I bring this downstairs?” but I’m sure I didn’t. I asked my sister if she brought it down and she said no. So I realize my cat must have done it. DeeDee can be quite an ornery little butt, and she’s also very intrigued by natural things – my leather ballet slippers, my 16th birthday lillys which poisoned her and ended in an extended vet stay but that’s another story, the hay in our nativity scene … and now, apparently my goat hair brush. So gross. I went to wash it the next morning and the bristles were stiff with her saliva. *GAG* That erased any doubt in my mind that she was the culprit. I washed the brush with shampoo first and then twice with antibacterial Dial soap (something I would NEVER normally do to a brush, by the way). I also washed by little blush brush that was laying with the powder brush – just in-case.

I brought them into my room and laid them on a towel on the floor to dry. Normally I would have put them on my desk or something, but there wasn’t space for them anywhere else at the moment. Later that afternoon I was downstairs on the family computer. My sister sticks her head in the door and says, “DeeDee’s in your room, by the way. She’s asleep on your bed.”

Ok, cool, I don’t mind her being in there.

“When I looked in there a little while ago,” my sister continues, “she was rubbing her face on your brush.”

CRUD!!! “I just washed it this morning!” I moan. Uhg, why didn’t I think? I left it right on the floor, in plain site. I couldn’t have done worse if I had tossed the brush to DeeDee and said, “here, have fun.”

So I went to wash the brush again. The bristles were stiff with dried spit again. I washed it with shampoo and twice with antibacterial Dial soap again. I’m going to spray a little diluted alcohol on it. I’m going to have to buy brush shaper to reshape some of the mangled bristles. That is, if I can ever bring myself to use it on my face again. I think I might just buy a new kabuki …

So, to all you makeup-loving people out there, if you have a curious, devious, or otherwise mischievous cat in your home I suggest you make sure you keep your brushes under lock and key – or at the vary least, out of their reach. The Little … Dear

New Stuff!

Two new addition to the site have been made. I now am an Amazon.com associate and I created a store with them. You can find the link on the right side of my blog in the “Pages” section. In my store I have lots of beauty items, both high and low end. I’ll be adding new items frequently so check back often.

The second new thing is a section of my favorite Mathieu Francis (SHOUT-OUT) quotes. He never fails to crack me up (or even reduce me to tears laughing!) in his videos. I love his humor. So be sure to check out that page as well, and often, as I will be frequently updating it.

I’m also thinking of redoing the site and giving it a new look … Not sure if I have the time at the moment though, but it is a possibility. 🙂

I’m Back! March 2, 2008

I completely abandoned this site and for that I am sorry. Uhg. I shouldn’t start things before I figure out how to incorporate them into my life, lol. But anyhow, I’m back and hope to start creating better content for the blog. I’ve gained a lot more knowledge since this site began which is a very good thing – I didn’t know very much about makeup in the beginning. >_< I knew only that I liked it and wanted to learn more … BUT, like I said, I’ve been learning and I’ve got some new products that I’ve been experimenting with (such as Everyday Minerals, Pure Luxe Cosmetics, Alima Minerals, and NYX – reviews/tuts coming soon, BTW!) and have come a long, looooong way. Don’t get me wrong, I am far from knowing everything (FAR!!), but I feel like I am now more at an intermediate stage rather than being so beginner. If that makes sense …

Anyway, I was completely blown away when I checked this site today to find that it had recieved 4,000+ hits. I still feel shocked. I realized this is something I should try to keep up even if I can’t spend 10 hours a day on it.

I’m also going to start up the YouTube videos again. It took me a little while to get over my camera shyness (I have to thank ExpoTV.com for that!), which was really weird, by the way. The last thing I expected from myself was camera shyness. I’ve grown up with a video camera in my face and my mom and my aunt and both my grandmas take pictures like crazy – I’m no stranger to the camera. But to get in front of it, put on makeup, and then post it on YouTube totally freaked me out at first.

But yeah, I think I have rambled on long enough now. 😉

Foundation Coverage October 17, 2007

Perhaps you have tried several different kinds of drugstore liquid foundations but are repeatedly disappointed with the level of coverage you get from them. Before you go all in and splurge on a high-end foundation, take a moment to examine the method you apply your foundation. Do you use your fingers or a sponge? These provide a more sheer coverage, which sometimes is fine, but other times you will want/need more than that. They key to getting really full coverage is to use a brush. A brush with synthetic bristles will not absorb or “rub away” any of your foundation and will give you beautiful coverage.

A foundation brush doesn’t have to be expensive, either:

ELF offers a foundation brush for $1.

AVON has one for $5.99.

You can even use paint brushes from the craft store, which is actually what I do. I get great coverage from a 3/4″ wash brush that came in a set my mom bought for $5. JoAnn has wash brushes on their site in a variety of sizes for $2.49 each. You can also use small shader brushes for your concealer.
