Beauty. Easy. Simple. Smart.

Oopsie … March 12, 2008

Well, somehow I accidentally changed the layout of my blog. I can’t put it back to the way it was at the moment because the EZ Beauty image that I had up is on my broken computer. *sigh*

Oh well, I guess it looks ok for now. I’ll have to figure something out later – right now I actually need to go put makeup on, lol. I’m going out to see my grandma later today. πŸ™‚

Affordable Brushes

Haven’t blogged in a couple days as my mind hasn’t been very focused on makeup lately. However, a couple nights ago I saw a great video by Koren of EnKoreMakeup over at YouTube about affordable makeup brushes.

These brushes look super amazing. I went to the site and they have even more that weren’t featured in the video. I haven’t tried any of these yet, but I’m excited to buy some in the future. Not sure how soon that will be, though, my personal computer broke (I’ve been using the family laptop) and pretty much all my money will go to a new computer for the next month or two. But that’s life, lol.

Anyway, I’ve also heard that H&M has brushes that are really inexpensive, but very soft and of high quality. I’ve been wanting to go and look into this but I haven’t had the chance to do this either. =( Hopefully soon.

ED Minerals Pre-Release Shadow/Blush Swatches March 4, 2008

Here are some swatches of the Everyday Minerals upcoming shadow, Glass Bottom Boat, and shadow/blush Mojave Camping. They will both be available to purchase March 15th. I took these pictures in the afternoon on a cloudy day. Glass Bottom Boat looks much different in more direct light. In this lighting it took a more sage green color and the aqua flash was not very noticeable. I will take some in sunlight as soon as the weather cooperates! πŸ™‚

“She did WHAT??”

Ok, Sunday night I was hanging out with my sister and our friend. I put some makeup on and left my stuff on the bottom of a little shelf I have where I keep all my makeup and didn’t think about it again. A couple hours later we were in the living room watching TV and I hear my cat, DeeDee, meowing by the stairs, but I don’t think anything of it. Our friend leaves at 11PM and I’m about to head upstairs when I notice … my powder brush laying at the foot of the stairs. It’s an art brush made from goat hair.

For a second I think, “Did I bring this downstairs?” but I’m sure I didn’t. I asked my sister if she brought it down and she said no. So I realize my cat must have done it. DeeDee can be quite an ornery little butt, and she’s also very intrigued by natural things – my leather ballet slippers, my 16th birthday lillys which poisoned her and ended in an extended vet stay but that’s another story, the hay in our nativity scene … and now, apparently my goat hair brush. So gross. I went to wash it the next morning and the bristles were stiff with her saliva. *GAG* That erased any doubt in my mind that she was the culprit. I washed the brush with shampoo first and then twice with antibacterial Dial soap (something I would NEVER normally do to a brush, by the way). I also washed by little blush brush that was laying with the powder brush – just in-case.

I brought them into my room and laid them on a towel on the floor to dry. Normally I would have put them on my desk or something, but there wasn’t space for them anywhere else at the moment. Later that afternoon I was downstairs on the family computer. My sister sticks her head in the door and says, “DeeDee’s in your room, by the way. She’s asleep on your bed.”

Ok, cool, I don’t mind her being in there.

“When I looked in there a little while ago,” my sister continues, “she was rubbing her face on your brush.”

CRUD!!! “I just washed it this morning!” I moan. Uhg, why didn’t I think? I left it right on the floor, in plain site. I couldn’t have done worse if I had tossed the brush to DeeDee and said, “here, have fun.”

So I went to wash the brush again. The bristles were stiff with dried spit again. I washed it with shampoo and twice with antibacterial Dial soap again. I’m going to spray a little diluted alcohol on it. I’m going to have to buy brush shaper to reshape some of the mangled bristles. That is, if I can ever bring myself to use it on my face again. I think I might just buy a new kabuki …

So, to all you makeup-loving people out there, if you have a curious, devious, or otherwise mischievous cat in your home I suggest you make sure you keep your brushes under lock and key – or at the vary least, out of their reach. The Little … Dear

New Stuff!

Two new addition to the site have been made. I now am an Amazon.com associate and I created a store with them. You can find the link on the right side of my blog in the “Pages” section. In my store I have lots of beauty items, both high and low end. I’ll be adding new items frequently so check back often.

The second new thing is a section of my favorite Mathieu Francis (SHOUT-OUT) quotes. He never fails to crack me up (or even reduce me to tears laughing!) in his videos. I love his humor. So be sure to check out that page as well, and often, as I will be frequently updating it.

I’m also thinking of redoing the site and giving it a new look … Not sure if I have the time at the moment though, but it is a possibility. πŸ™‚

Exfoliation Revisited. March 3, 2008

I just wanted to talk about exfoliation again because I’ve learned some new things about it since I talked about it last year.

The main thing that I want to mention is that you shouldn’t be exfoliating very often or with anything harsh if you have sensitive skin because it is really, really irritating for the skin and can bring on more problems than it’s worth.

A rash is not the only thing that indicates sensitive skin. In addition to more allergic reactionish things, broken veins, redness, and even acne are signs that your skin is delicate. You can have just one symptom or all of them – and anywhere in between. So, if you have any of those symptoms or any combination of them, you really need to rethink skin care.

I personally have sensitive skin and I have dropped exfoliating down to only once a week.Β  I still feel like I need a little help since I do have dry skin, but I don’t want to be too rough. I definitely wouldn’t want to use a brush or anything super harsh to my poor skin (that’s not really all the recommended anyway).

So, take a closer look at your skin and decide whether you think you need to continue exfoliating.

Ow. And Everyday Minerals

Well, I’m laying in bed right now hoping the Advil I took helps my aching back. I was bending over blow drying my hair and then I stood up and it felt all tight by my right shoulder blade. Grr. I need to work on flexibility – this wouldn’t be happening to me if I did stretches.

So anyway, Everyday Minerals. I wanted to touch on that briefly before I (probably) do a haul video. Or a review video. I don’t know exactly, lol. Anyway, I’ve really been amazed by the quality of their products at the prices. I’m so excited about everything they have, especially the eyeshadow which is the first mineral (or even loose shadow, other than MAC) that I’ve found that can actually be used dry. I can’t wait to get every shadow they have. πŸ˜‰ By the way, ED Minerals has a special on until March 10th, to get 8% off your order of $35+. You’ll also get a sample size of the pre-release blush/shadow Mojave Camping and Glass Bottom Boat shadow, both of which will become available March 15th. I have both of them and I REALLY love Glass Bottom Boat. Not sure about the Mojave Camping yet, but we’ll see. πŸ™‚ I’m sooo excited about Glass Bottom Boat for spring though, it’s this beautiful light blue with a teal-ish flash to it.

How to Tell if You are OUT OF SHAPE March 2, 2008

You are definitely out of shape if you feel like you are going to die after doing (well, kind of doing) a 10 minute thigh workout and one of Kathy Smith’s warm ups (yeah … I said warm up). I think I am going to just walk for a week or two before I attempt any more of my fitness DVDs from the library again. πŸ˜‰

I’m Back!

I completely abandoned this site and for that I am sorry. Uhg. I shouldn’t start things before I figure out how to incorporate them into my life, lol. But anyhow, I’m back and hope to start creating better content for the blog. I’ve gained a lot more knowledge since this site began which is a very good thing – I didn’t know very much about makeup in the beginning. >_< I knew only that I liked it and wanted to learn more … BUT, like I said, I’ve been learning and I’ve got some new products that I’ve been experimenting with (such as Everyday Minerals, Pure Luxe Cosmetics, Alima Minerals, and NYX – reviews/tuts coming soon, BTW!) and have come a long, looooong way. Don’t get me wrong, I am far from knowing everything (FAR!!), but I feel like I am now more at an intermediate stage rather than being so beginner. If that makes sense …

Anyway, I was completely blown away when I checked this site today to find that it had recieved 4,000+ hits. I still feel shocked. I realized this is something I should try to keep up even if I can’t spend 10 hours a day on it.

I’m also going to start up the YouTube videos again. It took me a little while to get over my camera shyness (I have to thank ExpoTV.com for that!), which was really weird, by the way. The last thing I expected from myself was camera shyness. I’ve grown up with a video camera in my face and my mom and my aunt and both my grandmas take pictures like crazy – I’m no stranger to the camera. But to get in front of it, put on makeup, and then post it on YouTube totally freaked me out at first.

But yeah, I think I have rambled on long enough now. πŸ˜‰
