My “Dumb ELF Brush” Remark October 3, 2007

I feel I really owe poor ELF an explanation (not that ELF is ever going to notice … but whatever) about my “dumb brush” remark. I really don’t know where that came from. I don’t think the brush is dumb at all, it just doesn’t work very well for me. The brush tends to really pack on the color and it can give you a very intense look. Since my skin is so fare, I like to keep things soft and blended so I don’t look like a clown or something; I can be overwhelmed by color really quickly. So I don’t use the brush for eye shadow but only because it doesn’t do the kind of look that works on me. I do use it for applying a base (as shown in my Fall Look video), and it works nicely for that, except for the fact that it’s not meant for liquid stuff, thus it sucks up a lot of your product.

So anyway, yeah, I don’t hate the brush, it’s not dumb … no, no, no. I just wanted to clear that up. =)

Product Review – Rimmel 10 Day Nail Color

Sadly, I’m not deeply impressed with this product. I want to be because I absolutely love the Tequila Sunrise shade (it was just the retro orange-red I was looking for), but the polish just doesn’t last. The regular Rimmel nail polishes chip like crazy, even if you do your manicure absolutely right, and the 10 day color is no better. Maybe I need a base-coat or a really good topcoat to help it stay on better … but, on the other hand, Petites (for like, 98 cents at WalMart) last better than this.

If you really, really like one of their shades, I say go ahead and try it (it’s only a couple of bucks after all). Just be prepared to have to do a LOT of touch-ups if you want to keep it looking neat all week long.

Getting the Most Out of Your Shower

I like to take my daily shower in the evening. I think it makes more sense than showering in the mornings because a.) who wants to get into bed dirty? and b.) showing in the morning is a pain when I’m half asleep and cold. Note: you shouldn’t shower at night if you have insomnia – it’s too stimulating.

Now, how should you go about doing all the things you do in the shower? Maybe you haven’t thought about it before, but there really is a certain way you should shower.

You should start by getting wet all over. Don’t wait to wet your hair right before you wash it, it needs time to get really wet. This will make it easier to get shampoo through your hair.

Next, wash your body while your hair is soaking up the water. Since I shower in the evenings, I also sometimes wash/exfoliate my face in the shower. This is the time for that.

Then shampoo your hair. You only need to shampoo once. Yep, that’s right. =) Rinse and use conditioner. I strongly, strongly recommend you use conditioner if you don’t use a 2 in 1. I know a lot of people skip conditioning but it really is important. It will soften your hair and keep it from getting full of static. If you are really pressed for time, you can mix conditioner in with your shampoo – just put a little of both in your hands and then wash your hair.

After applying conditioner, shave while it is soaking into you hair. Don’t shave first thing in the shower because if you wait for the hair to become saturated with water (takes 2 or 3 minutes) the hair will cut easier.

Now rinse the conditioner out of your hair and you’re done! And with no wasted time.
